NEW SUFFOLK WATERFRONT
New Suffolk, NY
MPLA MPLA was thrilled to assist with site planning and permits for this historic waterfront site in New Suffolk. After many years of organizing and fund raising, the New Suffolk Waterfront Fund partnered with the Peconic Land Trust to purchase the property from a private developer, preserving a large portion of the property for the public use and access. Phase 1 included the restoration and reconstruction of the bulkheading and marina, as well as the historic Galley Ho restaurant which were all damaged in Superstorm Sandy. The Master Plan included a rain garden to capture stormwater runoff and minor flooding and native plantings throughout the site. The site is managed organically and maintained largely by volunteers. Phase 2 will focus on making the beach front area more beautiful and accessible to the community.
